The Chinese New Year is celebrated in China and Chinese communities throughout the world from January 21 through February 20 each year, in accordance with the Western calendar. During the festival, the full moon of the following month is celebrated.

What are things we must do to prepare for the Chinese New Year?

Traditions and Activities

  1. Putting Up New Year Decorations -It is believed that hanging those decorations keeps evil away and prays for blessings, longevity, health, and peace. There will be tiger images on decorations in 2023 since it is the Year of the Rabbit.
  2. Offering Sacrifices to Ancestors - It shows respect and piety to offer sacrifices to your ancestors. As well as protecting their descendants, ancestral spirits are believed to bring prosperity.
  3. Enjoying a Reunion Dinner - Reunion dinners for Lunar New Year's Eve are a "must-do" for the whole family. Family events are very important to the Chinese, and they often travel long distances to attend
  4. Giving Red Envelopes (Lucky Money) to Kids - Due to red being China's lucky color, lucky money is believed to bring good fortune.
  5. Staying Up Late - The art of keeping good watch over the year is known as shousui (show-sway). Most Chinese people now stay up until midnight, when the fireworks and firecrackers die down, instead of staying up all night.

What is the lucky animal according to the Chinese zodiac in 2023?

January 22nd, 2023, marks the beginning of the Water Rabbit year, and February 9th, 2024 (Chinese New Year's Eve) marks the end of the Water Rabbit year. Chinese culture considers rabbit to be a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity.
