Here are some common symbols that can be noticed in buildings, arts, gadgets, etc: 

  • I = 1
  • V = 5
  • X = 10
  • L = 50
  • C = 100
  • D = 500
  • M = 1000

The Roman numeral represents a number, for example, 1,2,3, etc. Those are all written with 'I'.
