Do you write a letter of resignation when you retire?

When you are about to retire, it's common to have some meetings with your boss and HR department, to be sure the transition will go smoothly, for the organization that you are about to leave, as well as for yourself. One of the activities that you need to do, is by sending a retirement letter about details of your departure.

Your letter should include the date you are resigning, which will be the last day you work. If you are able to help during the transition that will follow your resignation, mention this as well.
