A pinewood derby car is easily made by yourself or with a partner. The care can then be used in a pinewood derby. A pinewood derby is a racing event for unpowered miniature cars. Pinewood derbies are often run by Packs of the Cub Scouts program of the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts build their own cars with adults' help from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels, and metal axles.

How to plan a Pinewood derby?

Follow these steps when you want to plan a derby:

1. Establish perspective. Pinewood Derby should not be all about racing in a parent-child bonding activity that takes place throughout the process of designing and building a Pinewood Derby car.

2. Share responsibilities. The Track Crew handles setup, testing, and racing. This team includes scorekeepers, a referee, and a master of ceremonies.

3. Create rules. There are no rules, so packs are free to set their own. You’ll need to create your own rules on car length, width, weight, and wheel construction.

4. Host a car-making workshop. Plan an evening of car-building fun. Bring power tools (adults only) for the big cuts and handheld instruments for smaller refinements.
