A Value Proposition is a statement that tells us what a brand does and how it differs from its competitors. It's typically developed as part of a broader marketing strategy and is no more than a few sentences long. The initial proposition can be bolstered with statistics and facts that prove the brand's stated value.

How do you use a Value proposition?

Questions that are asked in a Value Proposition:

  • Why would a customer choose your company over another?
  • How do current customers react to your current goods and services? Are they happy??
  • How do your products positively influence people?
  • What are the benefits that they get here that aren't available elsewhere?

Clarify what your brand stands for

A brand needs to have the following: purpose, vision, mission, and values. When your brand doesn't emote these well to the public, then your brand may suffer. Your business needs to forge an identity if you want to communicate well with the public.

A Competitive Analysis needs to be done

In order to attract potential customers, you need to explain to them clearly why they should use your services and not go to a different company. Why are you better than your competition? You yourself need to know that before you advertise this. You will find out how other company's advertise themselves. You can learn from this and find ways how you can do things differently and yet effectively.

Know Your Personas

The value proposition isn't written for you, but for the public. A big mistake that is usually made, is that some company's do this by speaking at the customers instead of to them. Personas identify demographic and psychographic info that gives you insight into who these people are, what they care about, and how to communicate with them. This helps you better tailor your value prop to speak to their core needs.
